StashAway Alternatives UAE 2026: Higher Rates, No Lock-In

26 مارس 2026·4 min read

StashAway Simple is the most popular no-lock-in savings option for UAE expats — well-known, well-regulated, and easy to use. At ~3.6% projected with no management fee, it has been the benchmark for expat savings for several years.

But it's not the highest rate available in 2026. Here's how alternatives compare.

StashAway Simple: the current position

StashAway Simple invests in money market funds — a mix of short-term US government paper and high-quality corporate bonds. The rate tracks the global interest rate environment, including decisions by the US Federal Reserve.

As of March 2026:

  • Rate: ~3.6% projected annual return
  • Fee: Zero management fee
  • Regulation: MAS (Singapore) and DIFC (UAE)
  • Lock-in: None
  • Status: Live, fully operational

StashAway's strengths are real: clean app, reputable regulation, no fee, no conditions. It's a genuinely good product.

The question is whether you want to settle for 3.6% when alternatives offer more.

The best StashAway alternatives in 2026

1. Vault (vlt.money) — ~5.4% current

Gap vs StashAway: ~150bps more Fee: Zero Regulation: Pursuing ADGM regulation — not yet licensed Lock-in: None Status: Waitlist open

Vault earns from fees paid by institutional borrowers in regulated lending markets. The rate isn't tied to the Federal Reserve in the same way money market funds are.

On AED 100,000: Vault earns approximately AED 5,400/year vs StashAway's ~AED 3,900/year — a difference of ~AED 1,500/year.

The trade-off: StashAway is fully regulated and live. Vault is pursuing ADGM regulation and not yet available (waitlist). If regulatory certainty matters more than the rate difference, StashAway remains the better choice for now.

2. Sarwa Save+ — ~3.2% net (lower, but notable)

Gap vs StashAway: ~70bps less Fee: 0.5% annual fee (eats into gross return) Regulation: ADGM + DFSA — dual-licensed Lock-in: None

Sarwa Save+ is similar in structure to StashAway Simple (money market fund-based) but charges a 0.5% annual fee. The result is approximately 3.2% net — below StashAway. Sarwa's ADGM + DFSA dual licence is a credibility advantage, but the lower net rate makes it a step down from StashAway on pure return.

3. Wio Bank Flexible Savings — 3.25% (AED)

Gap vs StashAway: ~65bps less Fee: Zero Regulation: CBUAE-licensed digital bank Lock-in: None

Wio offers lower rates than StashAway on no-lock-in flexible savings, but comes with full banking — a current account, debit card, UAE IBAN, salary routing. If you want one account that does everything, Wio is more versatile.

Note: comparison sites sometimes show Wio at 4.5% — this is incorrect. The confirmed flexible savings rate is 3.25% AED, as listed on wio.io in March 2026. Higher rates require salary routing.

4. Mashreq NEO Plus — 5.0–6.25% (conditional)

Gap vs StashAway: up to +235bps more Fee: Zero Regulation: CBUAE-licensed bank Lock-in: No lock-in, but conditions apply

Mashreq NEO Plus pays 6.25% for customers who route their salary of AED 10,000+/month, or 5.0% for those maintaining AED 50,000+ average monthly balance. ⚠️ Important: you can only make 2 free withdrawals per month — exceed this and you forfeit that month's interest.

For UAE residents with salary routing to Mashreq and enough discipline to limit withdrawals, this is the best available conditional rate. But for internationally mobile expats, freelancers, or those who prefer flexibility, the conditions make it impractical.

Side-by-side comparison

Provider Rate Fee No Conditions Status Regulated UAE
Vault (vlt.money) ~5.4% 0% Yes Waitlist Pursuing ADGM
Mashreq NEO Plus 5.0–6.25% 0% No (salary/balance) Live CBUAE
StashAway Simple ~3.6% 0% Yes Live DIFC
Sarwa Halal ~3.5% net 0.5% Yes Live ADGM + DFSA
Sarwa Save+ ~3.2% net 0.5% Yes Live ADGM + DFSA
Wio Flexible 3.25% AED 0% Yes Live CBUAE

Why StashAway's rate has been stable while Sarwa's declined

Both products use money market funds, but with different weightings. StashAway Simple includes more corporate bonds, which haven't declined as sharply with Fed cuts as pure government-paper products. Sarwa Save+ sits lower in the rate stack partly due to the 0.5% fee and its specific fund composition.

This is why StashAway now beats Sarwa on net return despite both tracking similar benchmarks.

For internationally mobile expats

StashAway is Singapore-headquartered, which means it's genuinely designed for mobile professionals — not tied to UAE salary routing, AED accounts, or local bank relationships.

Vault is designed with the same user in mind: deposit from anywhere, withdraw anytime, no local banking conditions required.

StashAway Simple rate as of March 2026. All rates subject to change. Vault rate is variable and not guaranteed. Not ADGM-regulated yet.
